This month’s practice focuses on the opening the lumbar spine while strengthening. We will continue Therapeutic Pelvic Bowl Breathing and add poses that use traction to support opening the low back. Tractioning the spine brings “juice” to the lumbar discs, nourishing them and inviting them back into health, alleviating tension and pain.

March Series: Bone Builders

This series combines current research with yoga practices to help build bone strength while preventing osteoporosis and osteopenia. In particular, practices will focus on full spine strengthening. We will use specific breathing practices, traction, postures that have a specific effect on different areas of the spine, all while having fun.

  • March 7th pelvic, sacrum, hip, and low back strengthening
  • March 14th – low back and mid back spine strengthening
  • March 21 – mid back and neck strengthening
  • March 28 – integrated class, focusing on all aspects

It’s time for a healthy and strong back! Using an innovative approach to yoga, plus current research this class teaches you how to strengthen the muscles around the spine, to lengthen and traction, and release tension. This class is perfect for weak backs, painful backs, posture issues, and a general need for a healthy spine. You’ll learn:

  • Therapeutic Back Breathing (as taught by Rama Jyoti Vernon) to release tension, create traction, realign, and stabilize the spine and joints
  • Simple yoga poses to stabilize the spine & alleviate pain
  • Deep core work (abdominal strengthening) to support the whole back
  • Easy to understand anatomy to empower you to make healthy decisions
  • How to practice common yoga poses in ways that help to protect your back and neck and prevent injury
